Think of your Instagram profile like the homepage of your website – it needs to quickly and concisely let visitors know what you have to offer. On your website, you want to convert visitors in to leads or customers. On your Instagram profile, you want to convert visitors into followers.
- Explain your business and what you do. But not just that – talk about what makes your business different than your competition. What makes you stand out?
- Make your profile about your followers; not about you.
- Create a niche. Don’t target all homeowners, all women, all business owners, etc. Narrowing it down and talking to a very specific niche will actually help you gain followers vs. being too general.
- Make your name different than your username. Many make this the same – but your name gives you the opportunity to use searchable keywords. Use this space to describe your business.
- Think about your ideal customer and what they are searching. Present them with the information they care about most in the least amount of characters possible.
- Add links! You can now add additional profiles, and hashtags to you bio so that they are clickable to viewers. This means you can use your personal account to promote your business account.
- Consider using a tool like Linkin.bio which allows you to drive traffic to multiple URLs. This tool even provides analytics so you can see which links are getting the most clicks.
- If you have a specific call to action on your website, use that as your bio link. This could a limited time offer, downloadable resource, etc.
- Use a mix of text and emojis to catch viewers’ attention.
- Ensure your account is set up as a business account, and take advantage of adding all of your contact information – email, phone, address.
- Utilize Instagram Stories Highlights. This is a recent feature that allows you to pin your best stories right there in your profile.
